Helped Struggling Farmers: Agriculture is a key Oklahoma industry as well as an important part of our history and culture. Governor Fallin worked to provide relief to Oklahoma farmers during the state’s historic drought
- Requested and received federal assistance. Oklahoma farmers were experiencing devastating losses due to drought. Governor Fallin helped secure an emergency declaration from USDA to provide low-interest loans for farmers to buy seed and equipment.
- Helped get hay to starving horses. When the drought caused a shortage of hay, Governor Fallin loosened the regulations on hay transport to help get it to ranchers who were struggling to feed their horses. She also worked with the Oklahoma Department of Agriculture Food and Forestry to create an online hay registry. The online registry allowed farmers and ranchers to find a vendor that could quickly deliver hay during the extreme drought.
